The genre with a thousand faces: The perspective of the philologist Vladimir S. Vakhrushev

This article presents an interdisciplinary conception of genre proposed by the Russian philologist from Balashov, Professor Vladimir Serafimovich Vakhrushev. The feasibility of this task can be mainly seen in two aspects. First of all, Vakhrushev conceives genre as an ideal model generating versatile phenomena not only of discursive, but also of social, cultural, and historical processes.

This review was written in response to the publication of a collection of research articles dedicated to Tatiana V. Shmelyova’s anniversary. Therefore, all articles included in the collection “Increment of Meaning” are related to one of the leading Russian studies researchers of our time, her scientific interests and studies, among which are syntax, philology, speech genres, onomastics, media linguistics, history of science, and key words of the present moment.

An encyclopedic elucidation of speech genres (Review of the book: Balashova L. V., Dementyev V. V. Russkiye rechevyye zhanry [Russian Speech Genres]. Moscow, LRC Publishing House, 2022. 832 p. (Studia Philologica))

The monograph under review is an analysis of the modern state and perspectives of the Theory of Speech Genres development. This theory as offered and worked out by Michael M. Bakhtin belongs to a leading trend of the communication studies in Russia. The authors of the book are well known specialists in this field of the Humanities.

The speech genre “wish”: An overview of modern linguistic papers

The article presents an overview of research literature on the etiquettical conventional speech genre “wish” in Russian and foreign linguistics. The author compares definitions of the lexeme “wish” in various lexicographic sources, considers researchers’ approaches to determining the status of a wish and identifies some debatable problems of studying the genre. Particular attention is paid to the consideration of wishes within the theory of speech acts and the theory of speech genres.

В аналитической статье представлен научно-критический обзор современной лексикографической традиции создания экспериментальных словарей, в частности, анализируется словарь-справочник В. М. Мокиенко и К. П. Сидоренко «Крылатые слова дилогии Ильи Ильфа и Евгения Петрова (“Двенадцать стульев” и “Золотой теленок”)». Авторы издания собрали и прокомментировали свод устойчивых сочетаний, цитат, литературных образов, афористических выражений, восходящих к текстам знаменитых романов.

The religious style as a system of genres (Review of the book: Itskovich T. V. A Genre System of the Religious Style [Text]: monograph / T. V. Itskovich. – Moscow, FLINTA, 2021. – 400 p.)

The review is a response to the publication of T. V. Itskovich’s monograph “Genre system of the religious style”. The author of the book presents an original view on the functional religious style as a system of genres and gives its multidimensional description. The relevance of the research is justified by the need for a comprehensive linguistic study of the religious style as part of the paradigm of functional varieties of the modern Russian literary language and the classification of genres of the religious style on a single basis.

Agreement/Disagreement in Belarusian: Review of the teaching aid by A. P. Latushko “Belarusian phrases of аgreement and disagreement” (Minsk, BSU. 2020. 135 p.)

The review is a response to the publication of the teaching aid by A. P. Latushko “Belarusian phrases of Agreement and Disagreement”. The author presents inseparable phrases of agreement and disagreement as elements of the composition of a communicative act in the form of a dictionary with a theoretical preface. The relevance of this teaching aid is seen in the systematization of speech manifestations of one of the communicative categories based on Belarusian fiction. International conference Eleventh Shmelev reading (Moscow, 23-25.02.2015) on speech genres

Review of the international conference “Eleventh Shmelev reading” held at the Institute of Russian Language n. a. V. V. Vinogradov of Academy of Sciences (Moscow) on 23–25 February 2015. The most urgent problems of modern speech genre theory were presented and its “hot spots”. The conference organizers tried to invite the leading scientists from all major centers for the study of speech genres in Russia, and abroad. There were two sections: “Genre diversity of contemporary speech communication” and “Language specifics of modern speech genres”.

Once again, on deduction in Communicativistics: a remark about the article by V.M. Alpatov about “childhood diseases” in modern linguistics

The article analyzes the opinion of Russian linguist V.M.Alpatov who denies in the modern study of communication deductive approach. Have been discussed the points of view, according to which the deductive approach in science or is itself worse than inductive, or can not be used for external linguistic and non-linguistic reasons. It is shown that in the modern study of communication is less studies using explicit methods, than postulate.

This review presents a new book on the fundamental categories of «text» and «culture» as they emerge among the research priorities of humanities and linguistics in the beginning of the 21st century. Authored by Z. Ya. Turaeva, this book discusses a wide scope of problems that were in the focus of linguistic research at the turn of the millennium. These problems range from text models to linguistic demagogy and linguistics of lies. from the text addressee and ethno-psychological features of addressing the text to intertextuality.
