Official congratulations on National Unity Day: Genre and pragmatic features

Autors:
Gromyko Sergey Aleksandrovich, Vologda State University
Abstract:

The article deals with the problem of the genre originality of official congratulations on National Unity Day. The research is based on official congratulations on National Unity Day, posted on the official accounts of government bodies and officials on the social network and messengers. The purpose of the paper was to establish the genre specifics, as well as the features of verbalization of the idea of integrativeness in the official congratulations on National Unity Day. The study adopted a rhetorical-pragmatic approach. The author analyzed the structure of the text of congratulations, the features of the content and functioning of the structural elements, markers of integrativeness of the addresser and the addressee, and the specifics of the argumentation. The author concludes that in order to achieve the pathos of unity, recipients of congratulations use specific arguments (appealing to history, to the authority of the president, to the events of the Special Military Operation) and actively use the inclusive “we”. It has been established that a major role in congratulations on National Unity Day is given to the declaration – explaining the role and place of the holiday in the modern socio-political and everyday life of Russian citizens. At the same time, we can say with confidence that the majority of addressees consider congratulatory communication on social networks and instant messengers as a continuation of the vertical-hierarchical system of relations in the public service system, and, therefore, use communication templates as the basis for congratulations. It is concluded that congratulations on National Unity Day realize the genre of official congratulations and demonstrate a number of specific features.
