TO PLEASE AND TO GUESS AS THE COMPONENTS OF GENRE CHARACTERISTICS IN THE ESSAYS BY THE CONTEMPORARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

Autors:
Myaksheva Olga Viktorovna, Saratov State University
Abstract:

This paper is devoted to studying of the essays by the contemporary school students and is included in linguocultural area of linguistics. The analysis of works sent to the verbal proficiency contest has shown that the texts under study are strictly patterned according to the standards of school compositions. The reflection «I’m writing to win in the contest»(compare with the reflection of the authors of school compositions - «to pass the examination») disfigures the goals of an essay as a product, containing individual impressions, vivid and aphoristic, full of free creation. The most significant verbal feature of the contestants’ essays is the homogeneous series with the stylistic effect of gradation, reaching the unreasonable heights of communication. The desire to strengthen the emotionality of the created text with this figure of speech and the objective difficulties in search of a needed word have lead, for instance, to the situations when some components with the unreasonable meaning, embedded in a phrase, appeared in the homogeneous series. Officialese is frequent in students’ works. At the juncture between the evaluative, high vocabulary in the form of long homogeneous series, rhetoric questions, exclamations and officialese the ground for grammatical, speech, logical and stylistic mistakes is formed. The linguostylistic analysis of the essays also reveals the alarming phenomenon: young people do not havethe experience of using the wordsfrom the semantic field «morality”, they are not deeply felt, not «lived» by them.
