Linguistic and cultural characteristics of the speech genre “wish”

The paper deals with the speech genre “wish” treated as emotional and volitive communicative event, its meaning is an expressed wish of implementation of something good or bad for somebody. Grammatically, this genre is a kind of mood named “optative”. It is a speech act describing a certain situation which implies an emotional reaction of a person. The reaction of an addressee for a good wish is usually expressed in words or gestures of gratitude. In case of a bad wish expressed directly it merges with a quarrel and a reverse bad wish.

Genre PRology and convergence of genres of PR text

In the basis of a special area of genre PRology as a branch of the science of public relations the authors put the criterion of the diversity of PR-information in multi-channel public communication via new media. As a subject of genre PRology, the authors consider convergence of information formats of a PR text in a multi-channel PR. In the genre revision of PR communication in social media, the genre transformations of PR texts are influenced by the following factors: 1) technological, 2) intentional, 3) structural.

The discourse of technically mediated fraud: The genre “razvod” / “razvodilovo” (≈ “swindle” / “con game”) and its strategies

The article examines fraudulent discourse – a special type of discourse, the purpose of which is to take possession of other people’s property and obtain benefits through deceit or breach of trust. The author differentiates the legal understanding of the phenomenon of “fraud” and its perception in the ordinary worldview. It is proved that the concept of fraudulent discourse should include a number of communicative acts qualified by the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation as theft or extortion.

COVID-19 discourse as a specific type of discourse in the structure of the university Internet portal (based on the Russian and German materials)

The article presents the analysis of linguistic and cultural features of COVID-19 discourse. The current research is an attempt to identify the discourse-forming features of the given discourse as well as to analyze the empirical material focusing on its genre and language features. The analysis is based upon general scientific methods, with the use of interpretive methodology and contextual analysis.

Genre and discourse conditionality of concept meaning (on the example of the concept ‘youth’)

The article deals with variational nature of concepts on the example of the concept ‘youth’. The authors show that concepts as knowledge storage structures are modified under the influence of communicative usage and discourse preferences peculiar to different spheres of communication and genre forms. The analysis is based on the contexts selected from the National Corpus of the Russian Language with the differentiation of texts by types (functional spheres) and genre varieties.

The monograph under review is an analysis of the modern state and perspectives of the Theory of Speech Genres development. This theory as offered and worked out by Michael M. Bakhtin belongs to a leading trend of the communication studies in Russia. The authors of the book are well known specialists in this field of the Humanities.

The review is a response to the publication of the teaching aid by A. P. Latushko “Belarusian phrases of Agreement and Disagreement”. Language and communicative ring, key, matrix: about the significance of the ideas of V.I. Karasik for communicative linguistics

In the article a brief overview of creativity of Prof. Vladimir Ilyich Karasik has been given in honor of his 60th anniversary in terms of communicative linguistics – theory of communication, discourse analysis, text linguistics, theory of speech genres, theory of communicative tonality, linguocultural theory of character types, for which his works were of great importance.

Concept of communicative behavior and genre

This article focuses on linguistic-culural concepts of communicative behavior in Russin and English discourses and highlights their varieties: concepts-events and attributive regulative concepts. The former are modeled as a dynamic frame – scenario of a specific situation and correspond to a speech genre / speech act. The latter, attributive concepts of communicative behavior, characterize situation as a whole. they correspond to the quality slot in a concept-event frame and are verbalized by discourse strategies or tactics.

On style-genre partnership

The article is dedicated to the speech genre as a unifying basis for different theories of style. We clarify the notions of language, speech, dis-course, text in terms of «language phenomena» aspects singled out by L. V. Scherba. Terminological stability allows us to outline four approaches to style definition: cognitive, systemic-structural, textual and communicative. The cognitive aspect of style corresponds to the «system of concepts and strategies of usage». In this view, the speech genre allows for diverse definitions.
